Sad sad story. I found so many parts missing. Like, why are victims put to jail and why do they have to hide after they are released. Strange and disturbing.

That's Muslims justice for you. In Islamic sharia countries like Saudia if you report being rapped and cannot present 4 witnesses you can be jailed for fornication or adultery.

She seems to be less concerned for marrying her rapist than she was in the home ... And he seems to be really pressured for taking on extra responsibility for his "mistake" or act of oppression and selfishness ... In a weird sort of way the outcome is best for the baby. She has both of her natural parents with her as she is growing up.
It is a very heavily spun news piece - it is designed to insinuate that she had no choice but to get married to him, but reality is she chose it for the betterment of her child. She could have continued like that without marriage.
The Afghan culture is alien to me, but I try to understand it ... the problem with the West and the media engine of the West is they do not accept any other culture other than their own and will do every bit to sell their own culture as superior.

The warped logic of all this is that because such women cannot be independent and earn a living without a man she'd be better off marrying her attacker. The authorities should improve opportunities for women rather than push her into marrying her rapist.
If he's married to her he'd be free to rape her as much as he likes and no one will be able to interfere as its between a man and his wife, no justice at all.
This sort of thing can happen around South Asia but worse in some places than others.

This is an idiotic "muslim wanna be" government's way of interpreting islamic laws. Whenever they end up implementing the law exactly to the word without understanding it, they make a mockery of islam. Idea behind have 4 witnesses is that a Strong evidence should be provided so people are not accusing others of rape willy nilly. Nowadays we have all kind of scientific methods available to us which provide that strong evidence thats needed.
Going back to the topic at hand, its really saddening to see this sort of barbaric behavior being forced on women.

Sometimes the jail is safer for the victim, usually the women is considered the culprit and the men's family might want to kill her thus the hiding after release. Afghanistan is a man's world and afghani women don't have much value

No.. 4 witnesses are needed to prove zina, not rape..
