Gullible/Naive

What makes someone so gullible/naive?

Is it being inexperienced and young? Or is it a matter of personality, to just be more trusting of someone than another person?

Re: Gullible/Naive

both!

Re: Gullible/Naive

If its a personality thing than how does one break out of it?

Re: Gullible/Naive

by getting kicked in teeth enough number of times! naive people often are obstinate as well so its useless to argue.

Re: Gullible/Naive

Sometimes if you disagree with someone or something you're labeled as gullible or naive or nasamajh, whatever.

As for what makes one gullible/naive-- in what context are you talking about this? Cos usually everyone is gullible or naive when it comes to atleast a few if not many things. That too changes with time and life's experiences.

Re: Gullible/Naive

Sometimes people are born stupid.

Re: Gullible/Naive

I don't think the definitions given so far have accurately answered the question. Gullible means to believe almost anything, generally without using common sense or verifying if a statement is fact or fiction. You may have enough experiences behind you, but can still be gullible. Naive is a lack of experience (not common sense) which can make a person believe things without the wisdom of age/experience. Naive implies innocence, whereas gullible implies stupidity.

A lack of experience, a lack of rationalization, lack of the ability to question things, even when people insist it is true and come to one's own logical conclusion, and choosing to stay ignorant rather than read and learn all lead to many, many, many people in this whole world being blind, biased, and generally closed-minded to the world outside their 4 walls.
