Guitar

I am just wondering what would you suggest a beginner to use? Acoustic or an electrical one?

Thanks

I would reccomend that a beginner start off with an accoustic guitar. The main reason being that accoustic guitars help to strengthen your fingers faster. as a result, when a person moves on to an electric guitar after learning the basics, it will feel way easier to play. Also accoustic guitars are convienient, since you can take them with you pretty much anywhere. With an electric guitar, an amplifier is required, and so is electricity. Although most find electrics to be more fun to play, learning on an accoustic is definately more beneficial.

Remember that there are 2 kinds of accoustic guitars. One is the regular steel 6 string dreadnaught (all 6 strings are steel). The other is actually a classical guitar. Both look similar, however, the classical is smaller in body size. Classical guitars have 3 steel strings, and 3 nylon strings, which help to create it's distinct sound. Also, classical guitars have a wider neck span, to accomodate for the different strings. Regular accoustics are usually played with a pick, but one can use their fingers as well. A classical guitar is meant to be played with fingers, hence the wider gap between the strings. I would suggest a regular steel string for the beginner.

Salman, hehehe..but seriously if you know..so please help..its for my little brother who is only 13 years old.

Fret, thanks :) that was helpful. The thing is that my brother wants an electric one while i want an acoustic (coz i love acoustic ones)..its hard to convince him for acoustic though...so i told him..just get whatever.

why dont you both compromise to something in between? like get a semi-acoustic/electric guitar? or buy an acoustic guitar and install pickups... that way your brother can hook it up to an amp or processor and have the fun he wants, and you get what you like as well...

give it a thought
