Guests that Leave u (Hosts) Hanging...

Fri evening, 5:45 pm - just when I was about to head out to meet with friends (plans had been finalized a week ago or so), I get a call from home…and am told to come home, cuz we’re expecting guests from NY that nite…i hate to cancel something last minute, esp. when it was planned weeks in advance…but in any case, thinking that the circumstances can’t be helped, I call up one of my friends to let 'em know I can’t make it, and head back home…

Around 8:00 pm, we find out that the guests have changed their plans, and are instead going to come over the next day…i am a little disappointed, I could’ve been at the meet afterall…but I just swallow it again, thinking it couldn’t be helped…

Saturday, we find out that the guests are still not sure if they’re gonna come over that day!! keep waiting, and finally at nite, figure out they’re not coming over…

Sunday morning, we get a call that they’ll be coming over at 2:00 pm finally…now it’s 3:05 pm and they’re still not here :mad3:

I know that guests are to be treated properly and all…but the whole freakin wknd has been wasted cuz of their indecisiveness…if u’re not sure, plz don’t call and say u’re gonna be there and keep the hosts waiting…

i don’t feel like attending to them at all now…maybe i should head out/ask everyone else @ home not to answer the door once they’re here…leave them hanging for a change :dixsi:

Re: Guests that Leave u (Hosts) Hanging...

they might have some valid reasons for not being able to make it :@:

Re: Guests that Leave u (Hosts) Hanging...

no valid reason little princess...they were just out checking out the city etc...

aw that's ridiculous! But you are cool... cause at least in your script you did not flip out with anger!

Good for you :)

Re: Guests that Leave u (Hosts) Hanging…

Standard desi time…be fashionably late cuz they think that somehow increases their importance :hehe:

I don’t like such guest. They lose respect because our time is equally important to us.

i dont give a isht in situations like these

If its a bunch of people who is dropping in just to say hello hi, then it would be nice if they called ahead, but they dont really have to - we are “mashriqui” you know - back home nobody calls before dropping in, and the first time you realize that you have guests is when you are trying to dodge the army of assorted kids, all racing in to the house, MAmoooo Salammmmmmm - and you see a group of adults behind the kids. They have just gotten off the rickshaw or taxi, or car, and didn’t even bother to knock on the door.
Love you Eastern Values :teary2:

Just some basic rules, they should not arrive at 11:30 in the night and stay for 5 freaking hours. Nobody is going to disturb his or her schedule or routine, the guests can come in, and they will be attended to, and given all respect- in due time. And they will share whatever daal roti is on the menu for that day.

Re: Guests that Leave u (Hosts) Hanging...

lol. i also know a family like this. and now if they are coming we dont bother to prepare in advance, we just serve what ever is at home. and my family dont adjusts plan for them anymore.

haawwwww! serving daal roti to the guests?

What ever happened to the three/four course meal with 3 to 4 side sweet dishes? and ufffffffff how can you forget chai and samosas?

you see in the west it has become a custom to serve like a “buffet” style - even breakfast - so if the guest are not sure if they will come or not then you can’t prepare anything - cause you have FULL TIME job and all that crap.

Besides grocery shopping itself will take away so many hours. :frowning:

:cb: I would love to serve daal roti and get it over with!!!

just a figure of speech
it can be KhichRee, or achar gosht or allo palak (if the guests are in luck)

I know! Just pickin on you :cb:

Re: Guests that Leave u (Hosts) Hanging...

DM I have had similar issues, eid day I was supposed to go to a friends house for dinner, and had guests coming to my place all day. I told them I needed to leave at 5 so whatever time they are coming, thats my deadline, I had ppl calling me saying they are on the way and showing up at 5, when we are getting ready to leave, there were elders involved as well so I ended up cancelling my plans last minute.

I remeber one more it was same like X2' situation and she was my closest friend and she came around 4 pm and we had to cancel the party, hub was really pissed and I was mad.But when she came she said my husband was busy in Qurbani and he slept for 2 hours thats why we are late.
