I am trying to design my guest room and thinking of possible ways to make it as comfortable as possible.
What kind of little things can make the guest’s stay a degree more enjoyable?
Do you think, striving to give them a hotel kind of comfort and space within the room is over doing it? for example, leaving a travel kettle, tea and coffee and snacking condiments in the room.
Keeping a little Drinks fridge , so they can keep their stuff or enjoy food when ever they like.
Any ideas on how to make it enjoyable and comfortable so they dont feel too formal but at the same time feel the comfort of home.
I don't have a guest room yet but when I do I plan on keeping some hotel style accents with a very at-home feel.
Somethings I've thought about are:
Toiletries! I would like to keep a stash of toiletries on hand in case people forget stuff like a disposable toothbrush, mouthwash, a sewing kit, floss, etc.
We turned our pretty decent size bonus room into a guest room. It has a king size bed, and a seating area with a sofa bed, coffee table and TV, and a wooden wardrobe. It's a pretty self sufficient place for a family of four
I'm not too much sure about snacks, but I like reha's idea about extra toiletries. Also we have extra comforters and pillows stored in that room for guests to use if they need.
I provide extra toiletries, spare bedding/blankets, towels, bathrobe, bottle of water, universal power adapter for overseas visitors, mini packets of individually wrapped biscuits (I end up eating them myself though when I'm vacuuming the room :p), a few magazines, alarm clock. Depending on the guest I might put some fresh flowers and a scented candle in there too upon arrival.
I'm not keen on providing tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom, it's a bit too B&B-ish. Plus I would worry about dirty mugs in the room or tea being spilt.
Wow, you guys seem so enthusiastic about setting up guest room just like my sister. But god forbid if a guest actually comes in for stay, she gets so uneasy and can't wait for them to leave lol

My guest bedroom is in its own wing, separated from my kids bedrooms upstairs, with the gameroom in between..I like that it's in its own hallway, so it gives privacy. The guest room also had it's own en suite bath, so I keep extra linens, towels, toiletries etc there. In the actual bedroom, I have a rocking chair/glider with a footrest, a queen size bed and chest of drawers, but their is a walk in closet as well. I also put some books/magazines/reading material. The curtains I put up have a blackout backing, but their are 2" wood blinds as well so you can have light come in or make it pitch black. I don't have a mini fridge or keep any snacks in the room though because I'm not keen on having dishes or food in the bedrooms .
