Ah, let’s go with this one;
The painter was an Englishman, his name probably won’t be too familiar but I think this painting is pretty popular; it is of a character from one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.

Nice one actually this is Van Gogh himself and the sort of sorry mental health he had,it depicts him and the suffering he used to go through day in and day out and that was reflected by his frequent visits to mental asylums and back then there were no fancy psychotic drugs that we have today and life was pretty tough for mentally retarded ones and its quite amazing how someone with this level of disability managed to produced these intense artworks.
Once he chopped his ear lobe too during a fit and Van gogh only become famous many years after his death.

damn...o well it shows you guys eager to answer. anyho you only metioned the first name of the painting and not the painter. if anyone interested do dig into these paintings you will know lot more about the artist and the things he was surrounded with. as in Arnolfini wedding there is a mirror at the back which shows the exact of the scene (which tells us how mathematically Jan Van Eyck rendered his painted). it was a wedding ceremony...some say since the women was pregnant that is why its covered in the front.
