ah, sorry. He was a French painter, known mostly for paintings and sculptures of dancers - ballerinas in particular.

ok I guess its a bit hard so heres a clue:

This is the wedding banquette of Perseus (who killed medusa and kept her head in a sack) on the left is Phineus, who was engaged to the bride and has come back from a battle to see his fiancée getting married to someone else. Perseus is clearly outnumbered in men so he takes the head of medusa out and turns them to stone. Coward ka puttar!

umm what else, this is done by an Italian artist and the painting is currently in the national Art gallery (London).
