Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

So this was a popular thing way back when I was little.
Young girls would get together and actually have a proper wedding…all the rasms and food and everything!

How many of you have heard of this?
Ever participate in one?
I wonder if this is unique to our culture/community because I have never heard of it in any other…

I’ve been thinking of having one just for my daughter to experience…

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

My eldest sister (who's now 40) used to have gudday guria ki shadi in her childhood....I always wanted to do that but I spent most of my childhood either playing with boys or playing alone. :(

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

Thank you for the link Mirch.
Let’s see if there are any new people that might have done this in current day…

And Hareem…I have never actually witnessed a gudda/gudiya ki shaadi…just so you know… :cb:

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

^lol...well, you must make zarda and pilau for your daughter's doll's wedding coz this is what our mom did for my sis's doll's wedding.....too bad she got divorced after 2 days coz the gudda was making her do all the house chores.

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

:rotfl:

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

^No it's true....the doll got married to our cousin's gudda and after the rukhsati my cousin's sisters ruined doll's hair and made her wear rags so my sister went to his house and got her doll back.

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

^ OMG....that is hilarious.......I heard of something similar happening to my cousin's daughter's doll.
they married her off to a gudda from the "mohalla" and then went and got her back because she was not being treated well there. they discoverd this on one of the many visits that they would pay to their doll's new home.

apparently there were many fights because a large jahaiz was provided with the bride and they had trouble getting all of it back.....

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

LOL. Still funny.

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

:omg: This is much too funny.

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

I wonder if the search then began for a talaak-yafta "gudda"........

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

:omg:

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

:rotfl: my mom told me she used to do it when she was little, i find it quite weird though.. i mean to have the proper food, rasam etc. for dolls!

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

My mother-in-law was telling me about her guddi's wedding. They also got into fights and had to take back thier guddi and all their jahez. Could this be where the saas-bahu problems started??

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

That is hilarious Hareem :hehe: My sister did that wedding of barbie and ken.It was cute and nice experience.

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

well I never did gudda guddi kee shadi but this one time I actually celebrated my doll's birthday. We had Jello, custard, and cookies. Ami, Abu, bros, and sister were invited to my room for chai b.day party. :D

Yeah and my mom did take pics :D

lol hareem...that was hilarious!

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

Not started. Kids way of representing what they see around them.

I never did gudda guriya ki shadi and all :(. I grew up with boys around me, so if i were to play with my doll, it was on my own.

But, games like ghar-ghar and shadi and all, are not culture specific. Girls in the Western culture play those games too. They are a very good way to get girls socialized according to their gender roles. They see what mommy's and daddy's, friends mom dad, tv etc do and repeat that (psychological purpose: to learn how to handle those situations and learn to make their place in the society - obviously doesn't apply to every single person. It is an explanation).

Re: Gudda & Gudiya ki shaadi

Ooo love this thread Muzna...hilarious comments. I remember attending 2 such weddings when I was about 9.
Yes my freinds had the whole deal...barat coming....songs...food, Jahaez, and then rukhsati....I think I had more fun in those weddings then any real weddings lol. It was an experience that I will never forget and cherish these childhood memories. Definitely a great idea for Noor to have one with her friends.
It is like you are the mother of the bride (gurya) then you get to act like one....same goes for the Gudda...samdhans ;)
