If you actually try thinking about each word before you say it, sooner or later it becomes easy to avoid such things.
Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique used to keep a small stone under his tongue. Before he spoke anything he'd wonder if the thing is good or not, and if so he`d take the stone out and speak and then immediately put the stone back in. He truly realized the importance of this.
