I’m in search of GREAT (tried & tested) caterers for my wedding reception. I need a company that would provide a full service i.e food, drinks, napkins, chinaware, glassware, servers
They could be anywhere in the GTA (as long as they don’t mind travelling upto Newmarket)
I called Silver Spoon and they were quite rude. I was talking to ‘Adeel Khan’ and first he said the cost would be $6 in addition to the pricing of any menu listed on their website — for FULL SERVICE
Meaning, it would be $20 for the wedding package.
Now, that sounded fine to me. Not sure if drinks were included in the price because he didn’t answer me when I asked. Instead, he asked me again where the venue was. I said the name of the venue again & I specified it’s in Newmarket and not a traditional banquet hall. Then he started saying they have contracts with big hotels and really nice banquet halls (like I care?) & my reception venue should provide the cutlery/glassware. Okay, maybe they should…but guess what- they’re NOT. Why else would I be calling Silver Spoon asking for full service. Anyways, in the end he basically said they are not able to cater & provide full service because the venue should be providing it. I find that so ridiculous!! Before he said they provide full service and told me the prices, but afterwards changed his mind - HATE their customer service!!
People, please suggest some nice caterers who can respect their potential clients and are genuinely nice. MANY thanks =)
I think the place my cousins in Toronto use is called Host? - I like their food, particularly their tandoor service (they can bring tandoors and the chefs to make kababs & roti to order for guests). I know they can provide staff, not sure about china, glassware etc, but there a good rental houses in Toronto that provide all that stuff & will work with your caterer. Its nice to have one caterer provide everything, but I’d worry more about making sure you have good food you like (nothing is worse than a wedding with inedible food), even if they dont have china etc & then rent all that stuff separately if you need to (you’ll have a better selection of items to chose from, for one thing). My cousins use Chairman Mills http://www.chairmanmills.com/ but there are lots of other suppliers in the Toronto area.
I second Naqsa’s suggestion of Tandoori Time. I’m not sure though if they provide glassware/dishes/cutlery. Call the location in Albion- the owner of the chain is usually there and he’s very nice to talk to, and for the life of me, I cannot remember his name right now! I’ll let you know as soon as I find his card.
Are you only looking for desi caterers? I can refer a few delicious gora caterers who can probably do a great fusion menu for you but their rates would be higher. What is your ideal budget per person?
I have a huge family, and when we have dawats for all of them (70 people plus) at one time, we always cater. The places we cater from are:
Shalimar (mississauga)- I used them last week. They were great. On time, LOTS of food ( they even gave us a lot of extra) and lots of food items. Their fried fish is fantastic!
Try Tandoori Time. Their food is great! We've used them MANY times and never disappointed.
I just called tandoori time but unfortunately they are unable to provide servers, drinks & cutlery. They said they can only provide food - he quoted me $16 pp
karachi kitchen : their catering starts at $7.99 (ofc the cheapest option doesn't include appetizers) I'm guessing it will likely end up being around the same price. Same issue though - they don't provide servers & cutlery
=(
Noor, I think it's best that you go with a ceterer that you love and get the rest from else where. Of course it'll be a hassle but you know what, food is something you shouldn't compromise on.
Btw, there is a buffet place called tandoorui flame. Their food is good too. Call them if you haven't done so already!
noor, you'll find most desi caterers will not provide the glassware/dishes/cutlery. the one that will are the gora ones and they're much pricier than your budget.
we just went for a menu tasting on friday at tandoori time and it was DELICIOUS mA. we're really looking forward to chowing down at the valima hahaha
its not that much of a hassle to work with a separate person for the glassware/dishes/cutlery- a lot of places that provide those also provide decor items so you can usually get a pretty good deal when you bundle a few things together. it also means you have fewer vendors to deal with overall and your venue and the service providers will work together to ensure you don't have to worry about pickup's and drop off's.
