GSM Network Expansion for Pakistan

Huawei says that it has signed a GSM network expansion contract with Pakistan’s Mobilink. Under the terms of the contract, Huawei is to supply its GSM Mobile Softswitches to Mobilink to serve additional capacity of 3.2 million lines. With this contract, Mobilink’s total network capacity deployed with Huawei GSM Mobile Softswitches now reaches 10 million lines.

Mobilink is the largest overseas subsidiary of Orascom Telecom. As the largest mobile operator in Pakistan, Mobilink enjoys a strong customer base with 55 percent market share. Mobilink awarded Huawei the contract for phase one of the network construction with a capacity of 1.5 million lines at the end of 2005. The network went through several expansion stages in the following six months as a result of the rapid increase in subscribers. The expansion under the current contract will increase the total network capacity to 10 million lines.

look like mobilink is trying to be market leader and pumping more money into infrastructure.
all good for consumers.
