It annoys me to no end when I see someone ask a simple question and some smartass replies back saying “Why not Google it”… or worse yet, use the LMGTFY site to make their point
The whole purpose of “asking” a question and taking the time to write a discussion post rather than simply typing a query in google is to get some first-hand opinions from people who might have direct experience with the issue at hand. Sure enough everyone can google it… but if someone is looking for more than just search results, then a discussion forum offers them an alternative venue to get more contextualized and personalized responses to their questions.
So, the next time you have the urge to point someone to Google, don’t just assume that the person was incapable of doing so in the first place. If you want generic answers to your questions, go ahead and use google… but not everyone here wants generic pointers to other websites.
Sometimes people ask very straight question like what is the mailing address for state department.
or How old is Zardari, or how many licks it take to get to the center of tootsie pop
or How many rupee to a dollar , instead of googling something like that they ask those kind of questions here. That annoys the heck out of me.

Mich bhai - yes, for purely factual information, I agree with you... my post/rant is geared more towards the non-factual queries that can benefit from personal experiences and opinions of others.
In many of my recent posts, I've started appending a note saying that I've already googled this... but I'm interested in specific experiences of people. This kind of a proviso antagonizes the community spirit where we seek help and provide help to others... and I shouldn't have to qualify my queries like this.
I agree with you 100 percent LC. In my case I ask questions for which people cannot find anything in google. :D
In other word I say to slaves of google , kar lo jo karna hay, you cannot google it. :D :D
^ and some people are conceited to think of others as idiots without understanding the context of their query - and yeah, I suppose you can't do anything about it.
Like I said, I'm not talking here about factual information - but if someone asks you to "suggest" something... don't point them to google. Google suggests stuff based on a pre-programmed algorithm while we can suggest stuff based on our experiences.
