I certainly agree with you about Claire Huxtable being a bit too military .. but I think when the Cosby Show was aired it was a different time and a different place ... perhaps you are looking at her character against todays norms ???

@Psyah...read my response to TLK again. I acknowledged that Cosby wanted to portray the family in a way that goes against negative societal steretoypes about African American families .
Against "today's" norms? Are moms today supposed to be more or less of (whatever quality...maternal/warm/firm/etc) than mothers decades ago? I find the question strange. I already said that it's subjective. Some people might find Claire Huxtable's character perfect. I never said she was a bad mom....IMO she needed more warmth. But then again.....it could be that this is the way in which she interacts with all people...husband/children/friends/colleagues....and not confined to just parenting.

totally agree on the comments about Claire’s personality…as well as TLK’s comments that it was portrayed as such to serve a purpose…there were times when you could see the softness but it was in intimate moments and kept to a minimum…The Cosby Show continues to be a favourite even today in my family…and Noor has Carlton’s dance down perfectly!!! 
and khattichic is a dead-ringer for Debra…capable, beautiful and striving to make everything just right…the best of all worlds… mA.
