I know. But though she was a successful career woman…it doesn’t necessarily have to mean that she display that business-like behavior in her personal life. And I know that it’s a subjective matter as some might think she was fine as a wife/mom. I do agree that she had an allure to her. That smug and amused smile that would often play on her lips when she was interacting with Cliff and the kids…was charming and yet at the same time I found it lacking a motherly warmth.
I think that the “warmth” Claire’s character had was of the tough-love variety in that she didn’t coddle and she wasn’t an enabler of weakness/self-pity, etc. And that’s a good thing…especially for daughters when they’re in that adolescence stage (and at other points as well). But still…I think she needed just a bit more softness.
