Re: GS IT Help desk! Come with issues and walk out with Solutions..FREE!!!
I haven’t seen AMD processors in gaming laptops and I have looked at a fair share.
While it is true especially with haswell chips about energy consumption, I almost always see people talk about Intel hd4000 (integrate graphics) and never really hear of AMD integrated graphics. In fact, what is it called?
my my dad would use office and browse on web. It is just annoying to slow down when installing updates not to mention I broke the computer when I was installing win 8 updates. I am hesitant to do it now though I have to move it to 8.1 to get future updates.
Ahhh if I only could take a frypan upside some windows 8 Microsoft engineer !

Like I said, AMD is used in low priced 15.6" or 17" laptops and not much in other categories. Laptop usage has always been the weak point of AMD, it ruled desktop gaming before 2007 but after that Intel took over. Still I do feel AMDs are not bad, just that they did not market themselves as cleverly as Intel who know how to do business with other companies.
AMD nowadays uses ATI Radeons since it bought the company some years ago. AMD puts CPU and GPU on same die, effectively merged together in a single chip. They are marketed as Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). Back in the days when I first read about the computer architecture, Intel used to have a dedicated northbound controller from CPU to the GPU. This introduced some latency but AMD cleverly got rid of that dedicated controller and made the connection somewhat direct. But the real breakthrough came when they bought ATI, now ATI Radeon graphics are in the same chip as the AMD CPUs.
That’s the windows for you, some security updates are essential so they should be installed. I don’t use windows 8 but it may be possible for you to select the updates you’d like to install and uncheck others like in windows 7. Let it update itself at night when no one is using the computer.

Wow didn't know ATI was bought out by AMD. Next, you will tell us that Nvidia was bought out by Apple! :D
Awesome that a girl is into all this computer nerdy stuff . . .
Anyway, that is another discussion with gaming nerds on who makes the better graphics cards nvidia vs. ATI. I have heard better reviews of Nvidia though Apple swore off them after 2007 until the retina display refresh happened in 2012.
