Re: GRRRR!!! Kids!
I have a neighbor who parents through positive reinforcement only. Its so funny to hear him because inside i'm thinking of how i would discipline and it's so different. Once when his son was whipping around a rubber snake at my daughter, the dad blamed the snake. He completely avoids any reference to his son being, 'naughty'. I don't think I've heard him say the word 'no' either. I wonder what this kind of parenting style produces? A child who is overconfident or a child who is a free spirit or a brat? I don't know. Sometimes I feel bad for constantly telling Safia, "no don't do that" It seems that I spend all day correcting her and I often feel like I should just relax a little. i don't want to be too hard on her but I don't want a brat either. Has anyone found a happy medium?
Re: GRRRR!!! Kids!
Have you seen one of those newer shows on tv about special baby sitters helping parents out? I don't know the names, but they show a family having difficulty handling their kids and then the special nanny comes to rescue them, super nanny. By watching them handling the kids you learn a lot.
Re: GRRRR!!! Kids!
Sadya, Ive given you more than enough useful advice.... watching those nannies isnt going to help because when the camera is turned off all she does is give the kids a great big wollaping and thats how on the very last day the children are well behaved!

To do it the correct way, I guess we need to think what we would do in certain situations and then stand by our decision. It’s very hard.
I myself tend to shout at my kids when they just don’t listen at all, especially when you are on the telephone or you have to get groceries and they know this is the time to try to get Mommy to say yes for something she normally doesn’t approve for. It takes a lot of energy and hard work.
Re: GRRRR!!! Kids!
Briefly, as I never have time these days -
Your child is asking you for love and attention in the only way he knows how. He is asking the persone he most depends on and most loves in all the world. His method may not be the one most calculated to win your heart but he knows no other. Hard as it may be, try and listen to him and reassure hom you love him. And that means no physical punishment. Kids aren’t bad on purpose.
