in turn I think the military takes advantage of the chaos to enrich themselves and the vicious cycle continues.

i used to think it was religious obsession but have since then learnt the obsession is only an effect (ie people cling to religion and myth when chaos reigns in day to day life) and not the cause

Yes, the military is being used by politicians in the wrong way. What is your point? It is still the political matter as they order the military not the other way around.
