The problem isnt the military, its the fact that govts, who ever it is that’s in power, refuse to or fail to focus on real issues, and instead fall back on petty religious issues for the sake of political expediency, and to divert from their failings on everything that actually matters.
Many Pakistani politicians have used religion to appeal to the masses and keep themselves in power. Bhutto for example, despite being a liberal and secular, under pressure from the Right, succumbed to pressure and declared Ahmdis as non Muslims. Zia, knowing full well that his rule was unconstitutional, used religion to perpetuate his rule and deflect criticism by appearing to champion Islamic causes.
