grooms entrance

hello all,
whats the traditional way for a groom to enter? do guys walk in on songs or are having dhol guys play dhol beats the only acceptable thing? with their whole barat/entourage of course

Shehnai players

sorry my urdu's not great, what are those?

Re: grooms entrance

shehnai is the super high pitched sharp music that starts the tune of the song after the intro here:
it’s a very old school shaadi type sound. i love it.

Nothing beats the beat of the Dhol! It is so irresistible. What could be better than that? My husband walked in at the Dhol on our nikkah and my niece (3 yrs old) came in and said "khala your prince is here but he is very noisy."

Soo cute!!

Re: grooms entrance

agree ....Dhol is the best. especially if u r punjabi !

I hate the dhol I think its so sikh. Its Shehnai for me if anything.

Re: grooms entrance

for those of us that can't get actual shehnai players to play at our weddings, can ppl post some good songs or even wedding instrumental music with shehnai in it?

Re: grooms entrance

I think the dhol would be good. (im punjabi...so thats how we usually do it) it goes in so well..with atmosphere at our weddings.

^^^ Agree, We punjabi like to get up n dance with the Dhol. with Shehnai u can just sit there n feel it. It'll b more of 80s Indian Movie Scene.

Re: grooms entrance

well i'm punjabi but my fiance is 'urdu-speaking' i.e. from karachi, so maybe that's y i love the idea of a dhol and he thinks it'll be too loud... but i love the idea of this whole ruckus when the groom walks in!!

shehnai sounds nice too, personally i'd like loud entrance for groom and sloww music entrance for bride, the contrast is interesting!

Re: grooms entrance

I like dhol....
