Exclusive: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after ‘terrorist joke’ - mirror.co.uk

Two best men got a groom thrown off the flight to his wedding after one allegedly joked to airport staff: “Don’t let him on - he’s a terrorist!”

Hassan Shah, 25, was due to take an Emirates jet to Pakistan with brother Musa, 21, and cousin Amar, 23.

They were allowed to board the crowded flight - but later hauled off by armed police who told them they were considered a security threat and barred from travelling.

Mr Shah, a furniture shop worker, said: "All these police officers appeared and told us we would have to get off immediately.

“I saw at least two officers with guns and there were another 10 in suits. I asked one what was going on and he said, ‘You cannot fly because Emirates have deemed you a security risk’.”

Mr Shah and his best men arrived at Gatwick at 6.30am on Thursday and shared a bottle of wine after checking in.

But as they were asked for their passports at the boarding gate, his friends allegedly cracked the terror joke - also heard by other passengers. The sick gag was made just hours after 12 terror suspects - 11 of them Pakistani - were held in raids across England.

After missing the 10am flight, Mr Shah had to move his wedding to fashion designer Sehrish Rubab, 23, in Lahore to tomorrow.

Now banned by Emirates, the three have paid £650 each for flights with PIA from Heathrow.

Mr Shah, of Woking, Surrey, went on: "We were all excited about the wedding and there is nothing wrong with having a drink before you fly. They have taken all this too seriously.

I can’t believe they banned me from flying. My wedding plans have been ruined.

"We’ve ended up having to borrow cash to book new flights. I have asked Musa and Amar several times about the comments and both are saying it was not them.

“I did not hear what was said, but clearly it would have been said in jest.” Emirates Airlines said: "All three passengers were deemed a security risk.

“As a result of this incident, the passengers in question will not be allowed to travel on another Emirates flight.” Sussex Police added: “The three men were compliant when they left the plane and no further police assistance was required.”

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Naa, if a whity make mockery of Islam while drunk he would be happily escort out to his seat by lovely emirates chicks !

I can bet if their is one more attack like Sept 11, all of Pakistani will be in jail as yanks did to Japanese after Pearl Harbor!

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

1- mockery is one thing and claiming someone to be a terrorist is another, just like joking about hijacking or bombs.

2- there was a show called airport or something which showed liquored up ppl, white, black, red, purple whatever being tossed off flights regularly.

lastly my note that maybe it was the wine talking was about this quote from the groom

"We've ended up having to borrow cash to book new flights. I have asked Musa and Amar several times about the comments and both are saying it was not them"

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

i do find this incident funny. :--)

since the groom publicly admitted that they 'drink'...i wonder if his future in-laws or wife knew about that.....

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Aik glassy too much me thinks.

Morons.

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Omg how ridiculous. Why do people crack jokes like this where they know it could land them in trouble? If I was the bride, id be hella annoyed.

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

They should've known better and of course his friends denied it, they would, wouldn't they...

Reminds me of that idiot who was late for his flight so phoned the airport and told them there was a bomb..

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Just annoyed.?? I would have asked the guy to prove his sanity !!!

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

and you wonder why Pakistanis are the target all the time. Look at this insensitive, stupid and untimely sense of humor. In fact that is not even a humor, that is pure stupidity

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Why were they drinking wine anyway, wine is for ladies, they should have had beer, beer is for men.

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

beer is for boys, scotch is for men

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Firenze, you're wrong here....its a federal offense to make any sort of joke about terrorism, bombs or guns in an airport, Even if its very obvious that its a joke. Doesnt matter if you're a dark-eyed desi or a blue-eyed blondie, its a federal offense that could follow you for the rest of your life not to mention put you in jail for a while.

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

i pray everyday that this will not come to pass. my friend here in the US, he is Iraqi....ey...his family has been taking for questioning, his little brother, only 7 years old, pulled out of schooll.. it is so wrong. all he wants is to study to be a surgeon and help the very people he is being questioned by.

and it would not be just the Pakistani people....Saudis, Egyptians...:(...sometimes i wish i did not live in this country. a place that so many proclaim is 'free' .....a place that all claim to have good laws and justice....yet look at thier treatment of those who at different from them! it is no different than what americans claim are bad things in other countries, but Americans are unwilling to critizis themself.

i cannot be angry at the emirate airline - they did thier job. but it is foolish jokes like this one that make ignorant fools think that all Pakistani men are terrorist.

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

Americans criticize themselves all the time. Has Obama been pres so long you forget that anyone who didn't agree with the Bush-Cheney agenda was called unAmerican?

Anyway -- they only think half of Pakistanis are terrorist. They think the other half are just stupid...

Re: Groom thrown off flight to his wedding in Pakistan after 'terrorist joke'.

When I say criticize, I mean in a constructive way that will bring about chance of policy and protocol. Rhetoric with no driving force does nothing, similar to ignorant evangelical born-again babble that so often offends you. Americans are not a monolithic people. Do not make the same judgment that Americans make of you. Do not assume they are all the same.
