Grocery Storage System at home

So how does it work?

Do you buy what you need , when you need it?
Or , do you like topping up your stocks every now and then and having a good backup of things like spices, canned stuff , lentils , flours etc …?

Do you have a system in place that helps you ensure things dont get expired lying around in the cabinets and they are used in time?

Re: Grocery Storage System at home

I will share my experience , but mainly so its my husband who should get the credit for a perfect storage operation that runs smoothly day after day :@:

We dont think twice when we see stuff on sale .. so its things like tomato cans, lentil packs, spices , pasta etc ...
At home, we store stuff in cupboards according to date so that things that are expiring earliest are in easy reach .. Once a month hubby does a cleansing round , where he highlights the food that might be nearest its expiry .. for example we have tomato garlic tin cans , a few of them ... so I intentionally made food that would use up the items well ahead of time ..

Its a brilliant system , though it needs lots of storage space and ability to operate in a desciplined manner .. but its quite economical as well as , you dont have to run to the store every other day to get stuff :@:

we buy spices, lentils etc in stock and keep them in the storage so that we don't have to go quite often to get these type of things.

Re: Grocery Storage System at home

okay i have this cupboard that i use as a pantry, i have various square baskets for similar items in that pantry like one basket for sauces and mustards, one for jams and marmalades, one for desi packet masalas, one for can food, one for coffee, hot chocolate etc....and also any drinks and oil bottles go into that.

for pastas, grains and lentils i have air-tight glass jars kept in shelves and for storing spices i have spice racks for spice bottles.

for large items like flour and rice we plan to build a larder.....

Re: Grocery Storage System at home

hareem , seems like a solid storage system :lifey:
Larder is really helpful specially if you get the wheel compartments .. its so difficult to move large and heavy bags like Flour and rice bags …

We also collect shampoo’s , soaps , toothpastes , mouth washes and body foam … all goes in our stock cupboard .. really saves the hassle of running to the stores last minute to get something !
