Re: Grocery Shopping tips

I think reading ingredients is crucial, I bought some honey and a lot of products had sugar and didn't mention contents I purchased Australian honey with no GMOs and was 100 percent honey. Same with peanut butter the butter I used to buy had a lot of ingredients now the one I buy is pure peanut butter. For juices, I like to buy with lower sugar content.

If people are pinched for cash daal is a super food with very high protein content.

For goat meat I like to buy the Australian frozen one, Flash frozen meat is fresher with freshness sealed in immediately and is also much cheaper.

Always check the expiry date on stuff and buy the freshest one normally fresher produce is at the back.

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

I would like to know if anybody is using grocery apps for doing grocery. There are several such apps available which actually help in budgeting and keeping a history.

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

Hi,
I use this app for rebates on groceries its called Ibotta.

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

We look at the coupons and weekly ads that come in our mail. Marking what's on sale, then we meal plan around that. When some non-perishables are inexpensive, we load up our pantry.

By we, I mean my mom. I just the side-kick running up and down aisles comparing prices.

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

Yes , We contribute to the food bank weekly for charity purposes . I realized that some of the foods that supermarkets cant sell due to being close to sell by date are still perfectly ok to be used in a day or two . For example veggies, fruit , yoghurt, cakes, bread, baked stuff etc

So now I always keep an eye out for those reduction sections and buy stuff that looks good . Sometimes they have been selling this stuff for just 5 pennies even !

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

Yes I look at shopping websites , but I dont rely on them fully. Basically I just use price comparison sites more , so I can plan which products to buy from where .

Best thing ever is to not buy everything off the list from one supermarket. If you arent short of time and plan right , you can juggle between two to three markets close to you , and , more than often will find the best deals with more than one product

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

I think cooking simpler is helpful. Splurging once in a while is great but we eat very simple most of the time.

Breakfast is eggs
Lunch is usually sandwiches
Dinner is normally daal soup...I make variations of it to switch it up but husband prefers only daal soup for dinner.

Once or twice a week we will do takeout and dessert.

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

When I used to work as a cashier, those housewives would bring bunch of coupons for everything. It did make my life miserable but it clearly saved them 20-30 bucks on every shopping. I was always amazed by that!

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

That menu really is simple. Do you have daal soup with bread?

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

I meal plan and stick to it for the most part... I find that helps curb me from going overboard at the grocery store.

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

Yup. It keeps things nice and easy as both of us work. No bread actually. I make it using red masoor. I saute any veggies I have in the fridge in evoo, fresh black pepper, any herbs I have, garlic, ginger. Add in soaked red masoor. Add in chicken or beef broth (whatever I have on hand) and cook. Salt to taste after the broth has been added. Occasionally, I add in cooked ground beef/chopped steak to make it heartier.

Re: Grocery Shopping tips

Here is a tip. Pronounce product name/brand with due care.
Yesterday, I went to purchase "Agrawal ke 420 papad" and as I entered the shop I approached to the shopkeeper and said laoudly "Agrawal 420". "Agrawal ke saamne toh mat bolo yaar" he replied and offered me the papad. I did not know that his surname is Agrawal, also did not care about it. He was kind enough that he took it lightly and smiled else they were two and I was alone.
