**About 40 people have been injured following a grenade explosion at a busy concert in the Moldovan capital.**The incident happened in Chisinau’s central square on Wednesday evening, as thousands gathered to celebrate the city’s founding.
It came after Prime Minister Vlad Filat’s office received two threatening phone calls from an anonymous caller.
Mr Filat has now called an emergency meeting with top government officials.
Police say none of the victims of the grenade explosion had life-threatening injuries.
Acts from Moldova, Russia and Romania had been performing.
“It remains to be seen whether this [grenade attack] was caused by hooligans… or other causes,” said Moldovan Interior Minister Viktor Katan.
“We are not ruling out the idea of a terrorist act.”
The minister later added that a 25-year-old man was being sought as a suspect.
There were riots in Moldova earlier this year over disputed elections in which the former ruling Communist party lost out to an opposition alliance.
The Communists still oppose the election of a pro-Western candidate as president. The new government needs some Communist votes to fill the position.
