Go ahead, you wont regret it, your elders knew how to have the best! 
But you aren’t talking about just any green tea. You are talking about Peshawari Qehwa, right? And if done right it can be pretty delicious.

^ well boil the water (a cup should be enough for two people, if you dont want to sit in the washroom forever) with cardamom pods (crush it, but dont make their powder) and sugar. after its boiled turn off the heat and put two green tea bags and few mint leaves (if desire) in the water. and close the lid of that "pateela" i mean put it on "Dum" for 10 minutes.
ta-da green tea is tayar.

I just tried a cup this morning and yes it was yuck, but not as bad as I had expected...perhaps because I only brewed it for one minute. Next cup I try, I will put honey and lemon in and see if that tastes much better.

i tried it a few weeks ago and found it bitter too, i think il try making it like u guys have said above... i was making it like normal english tea :S

green tea is more delicate than black tea (that most Desis drink with milk)...brew it for too long....and it will become bitter. Not all teas are brewed for the same time.

Agreed coffee is good… i wouldn’t be able to work without the extra caffiene.
Mind you Green tea warms you better in winter… i should know having spent half my life at the top of the world…

A tip I learned about green tea is that you should not use boiling water. The temperature of the water should be 80 degrees- so boil the water, but then let it sit for 2-3 minutes BEFORE putting it in the cup with the tea bag and only steep for 2 minutes.
Yeah i concur with what RV said; some people brew it for too long, thus making it quite bitter.
If you still find it bitter, sweeten it a little with some honey.
