the idea of drinking spinach or kale or lettuce kinda makes me feel…eh? but I’ve had the Naked Juice brand and it’s not half bad… but the stuff from outside always has boatloads of sugar so I’d try my hand at it at home…
I have tried this Spinach, Banana, & Almond Milk Smoothie
2 cups of spinach
1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
Thoroughly wash your spinach and then add it in your blender . Also add in one cup of unsweetened almond milk and one banana, blend on high for about two minutes.Enjoy your smoothie.
Me and my mum loved this smoothie but my sis didn’t. Let’s see if you will like it or not.
Earlier this year I vowed to increase my veggie intake and found that green smoothies are the easiest way to do that. There are thousands of recipes on pinterest. This one gives you a good idea to get creative with it: http://www.cf702.com/files/2012/03/Smoothie.jpg.
I didn’t bother with all those never-heard-of-before ingredients like agave, spirulina, stevia. I went the lazy way: water, all kinds of greens that you think you are deficient of, blender. That’s it. One time I tried changing it up and added dates for some sweetness…would recommend it. Another time I added ginger which I would advise against if taste is important to you.
I like Lilly’s suggestion of adding banana. You can also cut it up in small chunks, freeze it and then add it to the blender when making your smoothie as I heard that frozen banana turns into…sort of…banana ice cream when blended.
Oh and as always my enthusiasm fizzled out after a month or so.
I have a green smoothie everyday and loooveee them.. I use different things daily but some of the most yummiest combinations:
Kale, Spinach, berries (whatever you have at home), banana, carrot and peach
Spinach, mango and berries
Kale, Spinach, mango, banana and pineapple
The more fruits you add, the sweeter it tastes sooo maybe start off with not as much kale/spinach and then work your way up to adding more. I also add coconut water sometimes.
For my inlaws, I add orange juice (tropicana) and a spoon of honey… sometimes yoghurt too
i do one every morning except sundays from the past 6 months or so. my insides never felt this cleaned out.
you don’t really need recipes - i usually go with 2 or 3 kinds of fruit, half a raw beet or a carrot, and some greens, ginger/celery/lime/half a jalapeno etc, anything else.. and some liquid - soy milk, coconut water, just plain water.. my wife won’t have even a spoon of it.
I was reading up on these and it’s important to see as much organic veggies and fruits as possible when consuming raw veggies so u don’t consume pesticides.
Make it almost everyday. Don’t follow any recipe but I just make sure, it has about 50% veggies (Leafy greens) and 50% fruits and sometimes I up the veggie%. Base is always Coconut water or Almond milk (Make my own in the Vitamix). I also add coconut date rolls (They sell some great ones at whoelfoods) if I make a plain veggie smoothie. Honey tastes good too.
If I am doing a cleanse, then I split and have a green smoothie (No fruit) for breakfast and just a fruit one mid evening. I think once you get used to the taste, it’s easy but start slow with veggie %.
Fullyrawkristina (Love this girl) and Rawgenerator have good recipes on youtube.
Does the secret to eternal youth lie in never eating a hot meal?
Some say the secret to good health is exercise, others a good night’s sleep.
But for Susan Reynolds, who has gone without a hot dinner for seven years, it’s her raw food diet.
She claims her strict regime of uncooked fruit, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and beans is the reason for her amazing health – and the fact she can pass for a 16-year-old.
The yoga teacher, who is 29, admits she loved ‘all you can eat’ Chinese meals and McChicken Sandwiches as a student but a trip to India when she was 21 changed everything.
Now her favourite meals include a cold soup made from spinach, herbs and an entire lettuce.
Ms Reynolds, who runs a healthy living company in Edinburgh, said: ‘The difference I felt in a day was incredible, so I’ve done it ever since.’
