I want her to show up as my avatar in chat. How do I do that?

I think it's picked up from your GS profile picture (not avatar). Try setting it under:
Edit Your Details (Quick Links dropdown menu on top) => Edit Profile Picture (left menu).

I think it does pick it from avatar pic as in my case, my avatar shows up in chat. But anyhoo, try what LC suggested.
