I was amazed to find this stuff in ASDA the other day …
Its a frozen packet of crushed green chilli cubes … I was thinking of using it for things like when mixing in yoghurt for dahi ballay or dahi bari’s … has anyone ever tried them? do they taste good or would it be a bad choice
I freeze my own crushed green chillies and mine taste fine in everything, curries, dahi or anything else really so I guess the Asda ones might be OK too.
thanks so much for your input Mrs NM ... I guess i will start doing that too ...
Question , currently husband brings fresh green chillies and I freeze them after a day or two in the fridge .. then occasionally keep on using them directly from the freezer ... but they tend to lose their sharpness and aromatic smell ... even some guests who like to have chilli and spicy stuff , say the green chilli when frozen loses its oomph... have you felt the same and is there anyway around it?
Buying in really small quantity is expensive here Mirch .. so we buy it in a larger pack .. I use them fresh for as long as I can .. but when they start going slightly limp, I have to freeze them ...

If you and your guests prefer spicier taste , then I would suggest you keep some chillies in the fridge to be used fresh and then freeze the rest. I personally don't notice a difference, but we don't eat really hot curries and our tastebuds have adjusted to less spicey food since having children. I bet if you didn't tell your guests the chillies were frozen they might not even notice the difference ;)
my mom makes cubes of tomato paste, ginger garlic paste, green chutney, green chilies.... they are extremely handy. I only do tomato paste/puree cubes. Do it at home, it will be a lot cheaper.
yup Lusi , thats a very helpful tips thanks so much for sharing
Mrs NM, Thanks so much … yesterday I tried the frozen crushed green chillies, I could tell that the khana had become spicy but the beautiful aroma of the green chilli was missing
