Re: GREATS OF URDU POETRY:

BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR (1775-1862)

The last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar ascended to the throne in 1837 at the age of 62. He ruled for 20 years and was deposed by the British during the 1857 War of Independence..

Zafar died in exile in Rangoon in 1862 as a broken and dejected man.

Zafar, a great patron of poetry, was himself a notable poet and took pride for being a pupil of Zauq. He contributed a bulky diwan, or volume, consisting if various genres, but he became famous for his number of doleful poems, which became more relevant after the War of Independence.

A few of these sad poems are more popular than the ones actually included in his kulliyats, or collection.

MY PICK OF ZAFAR's VERSES;
NAA KICI KI AANKH KA NOOR HOUN.....
NAA KICI K DIL KA QARRAR HOUN
JO KICI K KAAM NAA AASAKKAY...

MEIN WOH AIK MUSHT-E-GHOBAAR HOUN.
NAA ZAFAR KICI KA HABIB HOUN...
NAA ZAFAR KICI KA RAQEEB HOUN...
JO BIGGARR GAYA WOH NASEEB HOUN....

JO UJJARR GAYA WO MAZAAR HOUN !
