Greatest Test Team of All time

**Cricket lovers from across the world have cast more than a quarter of million votes this month to choose their Greatest Test team of all time.

Fans voted on the ICC’s official website, www.icc-cricket.com, using a short list provided by the game’s governing body, to pick their leading eleven, as part of the activities to commemorate the 2000th Test Match, which will begin at Lord’s between England and India on Thursday.

Four Australians, four Indians, two West Indians and one Pakistani have been named in the ?people’s’ Dream XI. The final selection is as follows:

Virender Sehwag

Sunil Gavaskar

Donald Bradman

Sachin Tendulkar

Brian Lara

Kapil Dev

Adam Gilchrist (wk)

Shane Warne

Wasim Akram

Curtly Ambrose

Glenn McGrath

Haroon Lorgat, ICC Chief Executive, said: "The huge interest generated during the past month was amazing as media and supporters worldwide speculated and then selected the fan’s Greatest Test team of all time. It supports our view of the everlasting popularity of Test match cricket.

"It would have been quite special to see this team take the field of play given the array of batting and bowling talent contained within the playing eleven.

“Selecting from such greats is no easy job, and not surprisingly, the selection mainly reflects modern players seen by present day supporters. There are many greats from the past who would have easily merited selection in this team, but it is nevertheless interesting to see the fans view on their greatest eleven of all time.”

A series of activities are planned during this week in the build-up to and during the England-India Test match to celebrate the 2000th Test.

Pathetic Selection to be honest Sehwag and Kapil doesnt deserve to be there.Kapil was never great than The King Imran Khan

Dravid, Dhoni, Srinath, Zaheer, Prasad Kumble should have been there instead of Bradman, Gilchrist, Akram, McGrath, Ambrose and Warne !

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

There is never a right or wrong answer with these all time selections.. and no matter what team is selected there will always be fans discrediting it.

Personally.. I think Sehwag deserves to be in there.. he has revolutionized opening in test cricket.. Any international captain who has played against him will tell you that.

Not sure about Kapil. I have no idea how major his test accomplishments were? Same with Imran.

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

LOL so sehwag is a better opener than Viv Richards ........

Imran's accomplishments were way better than Kapil and he should have been there instead of Kapil

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

4 doubles and 2 triple centurys thats an amazing record. one of Double was 293 and there was amazing 195 in Melbourne. It does surprise me that Sehwag has already played 87 tests. Viv wasn't an opener but definitely deserves a spot in Greatest team. I would have both in team. I wud kick Gavaskar out.
Another Person missing in team is Hammond.
Murli over Warne, Walsh over Ambrose.
Imran Khan over Kapil is an off course thing but Becoz Indian majority voted it makes sense.

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

Sehwag and Sachin should be the only indians in the team.

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

If Sachin scores a century then Greatest Test Team Will Lose :@:

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

Sehwag does not deserve to be in. Any all time team without Vivian Richards and Gary Sobers is a joke. As for Gavaskar, he was rock solid and deserves to be in (even ahead of Tendulkar - he was that good). As for Kapil vs. Imran, both were great. But I would take Gary Sobers in a heartbeat.

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

I wanted to say same thing especially about Sehwag :smack2:

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

I prefer Leonard Hutton & Jack Hobbs as opener :sunnyboy:

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

Don't get overexcited. This is an online poll and indians make up the bulk of online cricket fans. They would naturally vote for their own countrymen

I think most people would agree that as a bowling all-rounder, Imran was better than Botham, Kapil and Hadlee

You simply cannot have an all-time test team without Gary Sobers and Viv Richards - period. I regard Viv as the greatest batsman of our time and I have been following cricket since 1983/4

And as an opener I rate West Indian Gordon Greenidge more highly than Sehwag

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

Bhai i agree but a Test team without Imran Khan is nothing ........He should have been there this is some kind of a joke

Infact he should have been the captain of this team

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

It was actually Gilchrist who turned the stature of test matches upside down with his ability to play with the tail and striking the ball as hard as he could !

If WI plays as many tests as India does, you will find Gayle revolutionize test cricket but that won't mean by any stretch of the imagination that he has succeeded ATGs !

**This is what Michael Holding had to say about Sehwag :

"I think I came up against better batsmen than Sehwag ever can be. I think people like Majid Khan, Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas – I have gone up against better batsman than Sehwag.**

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

Dude.. I said Sehwag has revolutionized test opening... Gilchrist is a non comparison.. he played at #7 or something.. not an opener.. so that is incomparable.. Gilchrist gets the credit for revolutionizing the role of a wicket keeper batsman.

You know for every 1 anti-sehwag comment out there by an old player, you will find 10 comments praising his talent?

Very selective to pick 1 comment from Holding praising 3 old pakistani players over Sehwag :D

Regarding Gayle.. all I need to mention is some FACTS

Gayle - 91 test matches.. Average of 42.. SR of 59.
Sehwag - 87 test matches.. Average of 53.. SR of 82.

Is there a comparison? Not even close brother. Not even close. And Gayle has played 4 more tests than Sehwag so all that "If WI played as much as India" talk sounds foolish now :D

Cheers

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

Kapil over Sobers and Imran tells the story...

btw, team Selection was by PUBLIC VOTING (ONLINE). Unless China start playing some serious cricket, we have to live with heavily Indian biased 'All time' teams :)

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

LOL @ Sehwag on all time best.

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

Totally agree. That's why I don't pay attention to these "best" and "all-time" XI.

Re: Greatest Test Team of All time

As long as this site is full of Pakistanis, Indian cricketing greats never get appreciated :).
