Theoretical physics. 
Einstein never had real education, it all came to him through experiments, imagination, and pretty much his logic. Hence, we think he was a genius. His theories (relativity, photon theory of light, equivalence of energy and mass, Brownian (sp?) motion in liquids) opened the door to the world of real science -physics.
