Re: Greatest Ball In History Of Test Cricket ( Video )
I think its a good ball but I dont really think its the greatest ball in history of test cricket. I mean look at the clip closely and you will see that Gatting did not really play that ball all that well. His feet were stuck on the crease, he had no second line of defense and he was trying to defend it towards midwicket.
However all that said it was bolwed at the end of the day and I really havent seen many leg spinners get it quite as right as he did.

I agree that Shane Warne's ball was probably the greatest ball in history of test cricket. He brought back leg spinning, and to see a ball turn like that, from a new kid.. unbelievable. And that too in the ultimate Ashes.

I have cable at home and probably a T1 at work. It was great to see Lara falling over and getting bowled. Anyone has the video of Lara’s toe being crushed by a Wasim Akram yorker in the opening match of 1992 World Cup? Lara had just arrived on the international scene and didn’t look like getting out. WI won by 10 wickets though crushing Lara had to retire injured.

I agree. The best ball I have seen is probably Waqar bowling to Haynes in 92/93 in West Indies. All the more incredible as the ball made an almost ‘S’ shape as it moved through the air at such speed. Spinners rely on turning the ball by it gripping the pitch. It takes a genius, skill, or both, to turn it through the air. That’s why I don’t rate Warne’s dismissal of Gatting as highly. Our Mustaq was just as good in his time.
After he was bowled, Haynes picked up the ball, looked at it, then tossed it away as if to say " How did it do that?"

It is a good ball with a nice turn but hardly the best. The batsman could have done a number of things with that ball. I do not know what the pressure of the situation was but it seemed like gatting wasn't going to offer a stroke regardless of what was coming!
