i’m not talking from the 40s but in these times. are there any that seem like visionaries or have the potential to bring about great change
which ones in your opinions…?

Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
A handful of countries.S.Asia................. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ................................ I would go for Mr.Manmohan Singh and Mrs.Sheikh Hasina................................
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
In this sort of time, hmmm I think there are some great potential leaders out there but most recent leaders just aren't up to scratch.
I think Imran Khan is one to watch...
One politician who must be having a hell of a time is Hamid Karzai he has had his ups and downs but he has been a pretty stoic character and for all his ill's he has done some good too.
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
Ayub Khan and Imran Khan
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
^Nisha was talking abt these times.
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
From India - Nitish Kumar & Narendra Modi (purely for the way he has developed Gujarat).
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times

you can add manmohan to the list. he is reason for Economic liberalisation in India
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
It would be nice to hear of not very famous leaders who put people first - I am sure there are some.
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
Indeed I agree with you Southie I will add some later on.
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
tata has the potential to be a great leader, he isn't a politician but so wasn't manmohan singh right?
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times

Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
asif ali zardari :)
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
asif ali zardari
No way in hell... as a crook he is indeed very good but as a leader he is incompetant and arrogant... it will be the end of him.
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
^ ^ Well name one leader in the whole subcontinent who untill his late 50 had no future and talent. name one leader who was in jail for 8 years, had no education, no intelligence, who was always sidelined by his wife, who was known by his wife, whose party didnt like him, whose country used to make fun of him, who was disliked by media, who was terrorized by army and opposition and who came from a tribe.
dispite all that he became the president of the same country, now sitting in the very palace where orders used to be issued against him and has a private puppet government, and not to mention tons of money.
if that is not the greatest achievement of recent times then i dont know waht is

imran khan is best. but unfortunately majority even dont vote him.
imo, if he elected and become pm, can bring radical change in our country..

The achievment might be great but the man who did it is a crook, just becuase so many villains rose to top dog does not make them great.

that would be something that was selfish from your description here and done only for his own personal achievements not for his country's progress. a great leader thinks about his/her country's progress first and foremost
i'm talking about what china's leader from 30 years ago did for China and his vision of what he wanted china's progress to be like and how he got it to how it is now.
Re: Great South Asian leaders of Recent Times
well looks like my zardari isnt taken well here.
so here is another leader, greatest one produced in last century by subcontinent and who ruled till 60's. Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Man with a vision and transformed the country in to a secular democratic success story. well sort of.
