What’s the greatest American invention todate? I consider that the invention of TRANSISTOR was one of the greatest breakthrough of science. All the modern electronic gadgets and the current Information Technology revolution wouldn’t have been possible without this invention.
When the “Transistor” was invented then the scientists involved in its discovery thought of keeping it a top secret but then a good sense prevailed and then these scientists decided to reveal it to the world so that the whole mankind could benefit from this discovery. Eventually they were awarded with Nobel Prize for their achievement.
There were many such scientific achievements by American scientist in the last century. One of the briliant one is the discovery of doppler effect by Hubble. Who can forget the multi million dollor Appolo mission of 1960s and 70s which enabled the man to set foot on the moon.
But the invention of Transistor had the greatest impact on our lives. Today these lines which I am typing here wouldn’t have been possible without this discovery. I personally feel grateful to American people for this brilliant fundamental breathrough of science.
Let me know from other guppies about their opinion of great American inventions?
Yes I agree with you that the idea of Packet Switching as compared to dedicated connection, was a great idea and this eventually led to the birth of Internet. This idea was borne out of the need to keep the communication in tact in the eventuality of nuclear war with U.S.S.R. But without the invention of Transistor, this idea wouldn’t have matured to the present state.
A-Bomb was only developed by the Americans. All the theoretical work had been done in Europe. Germany was also very close to producing A-Bomb.
These works didn't affect the common man. Today the whole society is influenced by electronic gadgets, communication and entertainment which wouldn't have been possible without the invention of transistors.
Hmm i'm sorry you didnt get my drift sal35. I was being ironic when i mentioned the A-Bomb.
As for affecting the common man, it may not have touched the lives of people all around the world directly but it has otherwise changed the course of history of the earth. Imagine a world without these weapons of mass murder.
