I was at a shaadi last night and while adjusting my chair at dinner time, I managed to drop a forkfull of salan on my kameez in several spots. My sil and I dabbed the spots with a damp napkin and when I came home, I put some powder on the spots to help soak up the oil. What else can I do to get the grease stains out? Should I get it dry-cleaned, and if I should, does anyone know of a good location that dry cleans fancy shalwar kameez in the GTA?
I usually use stain removers like Shout or Oxyclean, but I'm not sure if you can use this on all kinds of fabric - I've mostly used it on cotton or chiffon. A better option might just using liquid dish soap - like ajax or dawn. Dab it on the spot and rub just a little bit then soak it in water for 10 minutes or so, and then wash.
Pour a can of coke along with normal detergent powder and run your washing machine through a normal cycle. It is also helpful in removing blood stains marks and acts as a clothes deodorize. So its a great home based method.
Thanks for all the suggestions. The next day I ironed the shirt with a dupatta on top of it and a paper towel underneath the stains. The stains didn't come out so I ended up washing the spots with a delicate items detergent and the shirt was as good as new.
