GRE prep material

Guys please list material (books etc) for GRE test prep.
Any tips on the exam will also be appreciated.

Muy Gracias.

gre.org ofcourse is the best resource...be back with a very detailed kisam ka reply very soon inshallah :D

btw search this forum, there's some very good threads abt this already

well ya i actually need some help as well in this regard. we do have some private colleges where one can actually get coaching of GRE, GMAT, SAT etc. but i dont think GRE is tough at all and i wonder how much you need to score in order to get into a fairly well graduate school.

another thing i wanted to ask, if general test would be an easier approach than subjective test? i myself think general would be alot easier as appose to picking math or chem. anyways, i would love to have more information on this topic so irem baji i will be looking forward to ur replies and others.

Rehan_Pk bro depending on the universities and the program/dept in the uni u are applying to, u’ll have to see if they require u to take GRE subject tests or not. Some [usually low ranked unis or specific depts in a uni] dont even ask for GRE’s. The rest ask for GRE general only and some ask for GRE subject test(s) as well. Check the websites of the unis n program u wana apply to, the info should be there.
As for what’s a good score, i think 2150+ is considered good for good schools, but i’m not very sure of this at all, i haven’t collected the background info abt this. what u should do is go to the admissions websites of the unis u r applying to, they usually have profiles of the entering class on their website. there they also mention the average gre scores of the entering class. surf into different unis websites and i’m sure for some of them u’ll definitely find this info. all the top unis have this on their websites atleast from what i remember.

here’s some info to aid preparation for the GRE general test

names of GRE general test preparation books [not in any particular order] :

ARCO
Princeton Review
Kaplan
REA
Barron’s

The GRE Big Book is also supposed to be an excellent resource

some of these bks come w/ CD’s too

plus if u go the gre.org website, i think they sell or give for free when one registers for gre, some book(s) as well…that info is on that website…

for GRE verbal, if the examinee is upto it, the best vocabulary resource is to learn the 3500 words word list in the Barron’s SAT-1 [yes SAT-1 not GRE] book.

many ppl actually do this but its hard work. but this can have great results especially if u practice alongside from sample papers.

there is another book, ‘princeton review word smart’, which has less words.

the webpage gre.org has excellent resources, a lot of downloadable material, plus some preparatory software that can be downloaded and installed…check all the links on that website thoroughly n download n use all relevant material. browse into each and every link of that page.

hmmm…what else…lets c…i went thru all the old threads on this forum [so dont bother searching again] n found these gre related threads. they r also very informative:

NOTE TO MODS guys, u wana merge all of these GRE threads? might b useful

there is another very good website www.800score.com, try it.. and anyone needs their tests, i have them downloaded, contact me. But they are slightly old and they might have updated thier tests.. Check anyways though!!

thanks so much irem baji. The info was really helpful. Yes, i would have to really check with the requirements of that particular university i want to apply to. however, i think its better if i actually do take GRE just to put forth a good impression; for instance, in a case of lower GPA and hoefully good score in GRE would take care of it inshallah.

u r welcome Rehan_PK bro  am glad the info was helpful n wish U the best of luck inshaALLAH  hmm, i think thats a good idea, to do well on GRE to compensate for GPA :k: this thread is on that topic, might help u, here it is
