I think you mean Rapeseed oil? My MIL switched to it from olive oil after hearing about the health benefits. I found the taste to be a bit bitter though.
Also, since I have some negative things about the oil, and in paticular about canola, which I believe is a derivative. In fact I was reading an article about the oil a couple of days ago, let me see if I can find a link.

The article I was referring to is in the post above. However I don't know how accurate it is.
I really want to find out whether Rapeseed oil is in fact beneficial, or harmful as my MIL uses it all the time. I'll keep you posted on my research.

I found this really interesting article which promotes natural ingredients. It claims there was less coronary heart disease in the old days when people used butter in Europe and pure ghee in Indian subcontinent. It claims we should avoid all ‘modern oils’ which were never traditionally used for cooking. It does mention Olive oil as good though.

I think all of us are confused as to which oil is best to use. I know I keep changing according to the latest health news. I cooked in olive oil, but was told it is only healthy if you dont cook it, just pour it over food. Because we bhoonofy our food a lot apparently it makes the olive oil toxic! ![]()

We used to use grapeseed oil. I didn't have a problem with it. Don't know why we stopped, but now we use canola.

I've heard that it's better when you don't cook it. But then I think I've also heard that olive oil can stand a higher cooking temperature.

I was under the impression that canola oil was a derivative of rapeseed oil, but in its less pure form?

Canola is rapeseed oil, rapeseed is canola oil. The name change is because people have a reluctance to buy something with the word rape in it.

what aurchaipiyo said. but rapeseed is different from grape-seed. grape-seed oil is good in the sense it has a higher smoke point that olive oil, and is neutral to taste. canola has a better omega-3 to omega-6 profile though for the same two things.
