Some of you may remember a thread where I discussed the possibility of wearing my grandmother’s wedding saree to my valima…but I didn’t have any pictures to show then. I finally managed to take a few…do you think this would work as a valima outfit?
Also, and ideas on what to do for the blouse (colors?, embroidered or plain?)
its a lovely sari.
hard to believe it is so old (looks untouched!)
you could give it to the kaarigars, they can add kaam to it (if you want to make it fancier).
it really depends on how big of an event you are having, so you can be the judge of whether it is appropriate or not.
(you could wear it on your mehendi or mayoo too btw).
for the blouse, get a solid colour (and you can add kaam to it)
Very nice saree … If you want to wear this saree for your walima …then go for some kaam as every one already said … and go for some antique work only ( with copper brown and green colour zardoz in it ) which will definately give your saree an antique look …
and wear some antique jwellery of kundan with green colour stones
beautiful sari....I would definitely get some work done on top of the embroidery though.
and if that is not preferred then have a plain blouse with very, very, very heavy work done on it to really offset the sari.
cream coloured pearls and kundan jewellery (jodha akbar style) will finish the look that this classic piece resonates......
Lovely sari. You should make a matching colour blouse with kamm and stuff for classic look and definately make a coloured blouse for trendy look. You can play with the jewel tones of emerald or amethyst.
I wuold do a solid dull gold blouse with kaam on the sleeves. If you opt for more kaam then go all the way and make sure the blouse is FULL of work.
I would also add work the sari but be careful and make sure you preserve the look of it...it is stunning Mashallah. I wish I had something from my grandmother...Inshallah you will look beautiful in it!!!
it's wonderful. You'll look stunning in it inshAllah, and it will be all the more sentimental and memorable for you and your family. Do you have pix of your Grandmother wearing the Saari? I'm sure it will look amazing to include those in your photo album side by side with your pix.
its gorgeous! i would pick the second shimmery color in the pattern, the pale nude, for the blouse, to give it some oomph.
also, i think its beautiful as-is, to be honest... i wouldn't touch it with kaam- its such an heirloom and i don't like the permanence of kaam... opt for a heavily embroidered blouse if you want to add some kaam somewhere.
the beauty of this sari lies in the fabric itself- i can see you with a garnet or dark, dark ruby and kundan/polki set as opposed to emeralds, although no doubt they would look beautiful too. so elegant!
i agree…its a gorgeous saree!! i wouldnt add any kaam to it…
instead i would do a blouse of the same color as the base of the saree…except with a little shimmer (no kaam) or you can add a little border to the sleeves of the blouse..similar to the saree…(or sleeveless)…and wear an uncut diamond/kundan set..with pearls…not emeralds or rubies…

Gorgeous sari!! I agree with SGC and would not add kaam to the actual sari--it's too precious to play with.
For the blouse I would go with the light skin color and add kaam similar in design to the pasley motifs found in the sari. And even if you opt for a simple blouse, you can further embellish the sari with your choice of jewelery.
A long polki set with diamonds, dark red stones (garnet as suggested) and amethyst (to bring out the purple) would look abolutely exquisite.
I remember you talking abt a pendant set and that would look very elegant with this sari:)
no kaam needed on the sari, but i'd get a silk blouse in the base color of the sari, with embroidery matching the sari's motifs/patterns at least on the sleeves borders and neckline. there are so many jewelry options to could go with it: kundan set, polki set with either/or pearls, garnet, emeralds...or even a matching minakari set with dangling stones...
I don't think I would get the saree rembroidered...it's an irreplaceable family heirloom, so I wouldn't alter it like that, not to mention the fact that the fine 70+ year old silk tissue most likely would probably fray and tear with the weight of additional kaam. Even so, the saree is embroidered from top to bottom and end to end in the jaal work you see in the pics...I don't really think it needs any more work.
I think I like the idea of a heavily embroidered blouse and pearls though...thanks for all the ideas ladies!!!
