Vegas is too far to drive to the Grand Canyon, plus it has too many distractions! I recommend Flagstaff Arizona, the city is @ 6900 ft elevation like the rest of the terrain as you head towards the Grand Canyon only one and a half hour scenic drive when you take Hi-way 180, you drive by the Highest Peak in Arizona Humphrey’s Peak 12,637 ft high.

Also remember if you are over 62 or someone in your party is 62 yrs they get into All National Parks free, the rest have to pay $30/- per vehicle at the entrance.
they will need to have proof of age and the Golden Age pass can be issued right there by the Park Rangers.

After you enter the Tusayan (Tussan Ayan :)) Park Entrance on 180 the main viewing area is Mather Point near the South Rim Visitor Center, we visited this month and spent most of our time on the day we were there, you can walk to the rim viewing points along the Rim Trail, three of them with spectacular views all within walking distance!, except we also drove 25 miles to the Desert View Watch Tower for fine Vista View from the Top of the Tower!

2 Questions as we are looking at hotel options:
What if the senior is in the car with us, does the car still get the discount or no?
How badly does the elevation affect you?

I am looking at pricing options to fly into Vegas and spend 2 nights, then drive to the canyon and stay around there. Hotels inside canyon are booked or way too much$$$$. Checking out nearby options. Is it better to fly into Phoenix and maybe drive up to Vegas for a day or 2?
