Please recommend what is best way to visit Grand Canyon? What I mean is what city do you recommend staying in and what from your experience was a must see, off the beaten path recommendation…any tips. We are looking to go in Spring Break next year (April), so we will have about 7 - 10 days.
Also any area nearby that is worth it. One friend mentioned Red Canyon as well as a drive down Rt. 66. I am also trying to see if perhaps we can spend 2 days in Vegas. Anyone did the rafting with kids?
Please share any ideas. Thank you. This way I can research our options.

Where are flying from?, the nearest major city is Phoenix, and you can drive from there 3 hours, and stay wise, they have hotel in Grand Canyon Village, but depends on availability, you can choose to stay in williams, and when you drive from Phoenix, pass through Sedona, its another beautiful place to see,
Many people stay in vegas and get a day trip leaving early in the morning and returning late night but I'd not prefer that because you just get too tired (almost 4 hours one way) to enjoy Canyon.
I'll suggest staying in Williams and spend whole day (or two) at canyon. There also is a train trip from williams to canyon if you do not want to drive (thetrain.com)

I was talking to someone about it and they said the same thing that a day trip is useless for Canyon. Wut they suggested is to fly vegas. Stay there for a couple and then drive to canyon and stay there for a couple or three days. Ofcourse it depends if it includes rafting as well or no.
Vegas is too far to drive to the Grand Canyon, plus it has too many distractions! I recommend Flagstaff Arizona, the city is @ 6900 ft elevation like the rest of the terrain as you head towards the Grand Canyon only one and a half hour scenic drive when you take Hi-way 180, you drive by the Highest Peak in Arizona Humphrey’s Peak 12,637 ft high.
Also remember if you are over 62 or someone in your party is 62 yrs they get into All National Parks free, the rest have to pay $30/- per vehicle at the entrance.
they will need to have proof of age and the Golden Age pass can be issued right there by the Park Rangers.
After you enter the Tusayan (Tussan Ayan :)) Park Entrance on 180 the main viewing area is Mather Point near the South Rim Visitor Center, we visited this month and spent most of our time on the day we were there, you can walk to the rim viewing points along the Rim Trail, three of them with spectacular views all within walking distance!, except we also drove 25 miles to the Desert View Watch Tower for fine Vista View from the Top of the Tower!
2 Questions as we are looking at hotel options:
What if the senior is in the car with us, does the car still get the discount or no?
How badly does the elevation affect you?
I am looking at pricing options to fly into Vegas and spend 2 nights, then drive to the canyon and stay around there. Hotels inside canyon are booked or way too much$$$$. Checking out nearby options. Is it better to fly into Phoenix and maybe drive up to Vegas for a day or 2?

This seems to be the most feasible option. I really need to figure out how many days needed in each spot. I have been told 3 days are plenty in Grand Canyon itself, not including any driving time. Perhaps an extra day if we can get a booking for those 1/2 day electric raft rides. Does anyone know if the raft rides are worth that much time? We do plan to do minor hiking on/near the trails in the canyon.
If you can recommend 2 things aside from the canyon itself, please tell me why. I am reading about rafting in Paige. ALso keep reading Sedona is scenic and beautiful and lots to do. Vegas obviously has a lot to do, but since we won't be gambling is it worth it for 2-3 days to spend just seeing the hotels and entertainment? Is there much to do with kids? We all as a family like easy to moderate hiking, scenic views etc but kids also love the water so feeling confused as to where to spend how many days. Eeek. We can always just enjoy the hotel pool we stay at.
Also this is a dumb question, but is it easy to access restaurants within the canyon or better to bring our own hefty snacks to hold us down?
I think with kids, two days wil be ok for Vegas. What you need to do is plan shows/activities and see inside different hotels on strip. Every hotel is distinct and kind of a must-see. I'm sure they will luv some of the stuff.
I cant comment on Canyon activities or the availablity of stores but with kids and elders it sounds like a good idea to bring snacks. What days are you going? Just make sure its neither too cold nor too hot which will be spring time.

We can go during kids spring break, and we have about 7 days between April 13 - April 23rd. The only other option would be summertime, and I would rather avoid the extreme heat.
I know city folks like large cities so they would prefer Vegas over either Williams of Flagstaff Az , but you need to add 4 hrs to the drive from Vegas to Grnd Canyon!
but here are the facts: you can stay cheaper in Williams, Az $50- 70 per night see for yourself info is from Google Maps,
Driving from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon you save an hour one way driving as compared to driving from Las Vegas to Grnd Canyon takes 4 hr 20 minutes.
If the Senior is driving you all get in free with them!
Altitude acclimatization takes a while but if you do not exert to much the 7000 ft altitude is fairly easy to get used to, we had a 72 yr old with us they had no problem breathing

I can tell you our experience. In November, we flew to Vegas, stayed for 4 nights at Paris, and did a day trip to the western side of the canyon (where the glass skywalk is). Its about 2 ½ hours from the Strip. We did some hiking, helicopter ride to the bottom of the canyon, and then pontoon ride in the river. It was a fun trip, and because we had kids with us, it was enough of an outing that lasted about 10-11 hours. We also went to couple of other sites within that area. You can also stop at Hoover Dam on your way back or make a separate trip. Its about 45 minutes from the strip. There was a carry out restaurant at the Canyon (one like you have in carnivals where you stand in line and order, and pick from another window), and we had some veggie burgers and fries.
If you are staying in Vegas, the biggest advantage is flying and staying packages which are pretty cheap if you book through Vegas.com. Also there are abundance of halal food options in Vegas. Kids can watch shows, and if you are up to a challenge, you can even go to LA. In fact it is based on the budget. Vegas has plenty of fun stuff for kids to do.
Afro-Sheen me not that lucky, the shot was copied from the internet, yes I drove by the peak on Hiway 180 going from Flagstaff towards the Grand Canyon! as you can see there are trails that go near the Peaks from both sides, the other side East of the mountain is on Hiway 89. I think this shot was taken from a meadow close to the mountain, no doubt it is spectacular shot! the view we saw from the road is attached herewith from Hiway 180.
