Now once you get to know this society, once you start dealingwith this society you will realize that it is not half as accepting not half as open minded as it wants rest of the world to think of it....and this is exactly what he felt after he got there in India

Now tell me which honest to his profession person would waana be part of this system?? Ford obviously realized all this when he got to india, realize that what he was about to get into and like a smart person, decided to Opt out.
well I guess you have a point...once he arrived India and met BCCI officals, he probably realized that it would be a tough job....plus it is 47C in Pak/India these days....

From what I have read - Ford's wife is fighting cancer and a child also has health issues. It "could" be that his family situation may have played a part in his decision. He never solicited for this job (unlike Whatmore)...in fact he was requested to apply by Shastri only last Monday....so logically speaking - he would not have had much time to think on what would be best for him and his family before he flew into India for the interview.

More than the people running BCCI, like PAWAR or Mr. KhatyaWaala or whoever..its the people who think that they should be the ones running the organizations based on their past credentials from Intl cricket, Mr Gavaskar or Mr Shastri. Its these people whome Ford must have met and realized that even though these people are not the people signing his pay check, but eventually these are the people (One who belives that 10K gave him all the rights written or unwritten in Mahabharta to tell anyone to run things MR. 10K's way for Mr 10K's country, one with one good series in his whole career) who are going to be monitering his every move from outside, (partially making $ ouuta it by feeding the controversy hungry HT, Hindu, Indiatimes, Rediff etc etc) and secondly just so that 1.1 billion do not forget that they still exist.

it is possible that he felt that Pakistan are also looking for a coach and he should wait it out to see if he gets an offer from the superior country.

He did give presentations and all less than a week ago. If his family's health was the reason then why did he even bother? I think he got put off with the stinch coming out of the 7 member committee.

Most likely the final offer was not to his liking or some request that he made was not accepted. In either its BCCI that jumped the gun as has been appropriately said already.

All I am saying is that the guy was sounded out for the post on Monday (06/04)....and was interviewed on Saturday (06/09). So between start to finish he got only 5 days...much of which I would assume went into preparing the presentation, packing to go to India besides his ongoing coaching duties with Kent.
He may not have had enough time to discuss this with family etc.
His thought process might have been - well, let me first go for the interview...and we will see after I am selected.
Of course, the above is mere conjecture on my part.

Graham Ford became South African coach after Woolmer and was pathetic. He can't assert himself and I believe he did India a tremendous service by refusing the job.
