Smith has captained his side a record 94 times in tests and he is one of the most successful captains too
94 out of 102 test caps is incredible
When Border retired, I never thought anyone would ever catch up with his record, just seemed beyond anyone but there you go

how come he is more successful than ponting?
Re: Graeme Smith, the most capped test captain
He truly is one of those success stories where management appoints a young upcomer as a captain and it works out greaaaaaaaatttttttttttttt and he just runs with it.
I'm a big fan of his passion and commitment. You guys remember that epic knock against ENG where he was sick/injured badly but he just kept going?
Re: Graeme Smith, the most capped test captain
When he took over, I thought he will never be able to captain SA’s seniors like Pollack, Kallis, Donald and others but boy he did.
but this model can not work in Pakistan “bhai” culture . You have to be “bhai” to captain the side
Re: Graeme Smith, the most capped test captain
Decent bhai Saba khairiyat to hai?
Re: Graeme Smith, the most capped test captain

No he is not.
Ponting's win/loss ratio is bettered only by Viv (3.37) and Steve Waugh (4.55 is just incredible!)

Just a hyperbole I guess... Buy any measure he is not better than Ponting or Lloyd.
Re: Graeme Smith, the most capped test captain
Ponting was greatest cz his team consisted one of the greatest players ever
As soon as they retired they even lost the 2009 Ashes with ponting captaining them

Ponting even lost the 2005 Ashes 2-1 in England with Warne, Gilchrist, Hayden and McGrath (though he did not play in the two tests which Australia lost)
He obviously had the advantage of leading a great Aussie side.
Among Aussie captains, Steve Waugh, Mark Taylor and Ian Chappell were perhaps more tactically astute than Ponting
