I enjoyed watching him and Graham Thorpe act as the mainstays of England's middle order in their prime. A very good batsman.
Correction: A good one-day but an average test batsman who could not quite live upto his county hype and failed to impress in the test arena. It was largely due to his inadequacy against fast inswinging yorkers that the English tabloids started using the term 'Waqared' every time Waqar bowled someone. Once Waqar really got his reverse swing going (1992 and 1996 series) you knew Hick's end was nigh; that it won't be long before Waqar would have him plumb LBW or clean bowled. Hick was usu. clueless against his toe-crushers. He was also a bit suspect against lifting deliveries.
