A noble gesture by Sindh government. He difinitely deserves all the help from the government. Pakistan will perhaps never ever produce singer of such caliber, who is well known ghazal go in both Pakistan and India.

Govt to bear Mehdi Hasan`s treatment expenses

KARACHI, Jan 15: The Sindh government has announced that it will bear all expenses of the treatment of legendary singer Mehdi Hasan, who is under treat at a local private hospital.

According to a statement issued here on Sunday, President Asif Ali Zardari has given special directives to Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who has directed the provincial health secretary to make special arrangements in this regard.

The secretary, Hashim Raza Zaidi, visited Mehdi Hasan at the hospital and presented him bouquets on behalf of the president and the chief minister, it said.—APP

arguably the best ghazal singer from Pakistan though Ghulam Ali has sung some great ghazals too

There will never be another singer like Mehdi Hassan. He is a legend. Nice gesture by the Sindh Govt.

would have been a nicer gesture if President saheb had footed the bill personally.......not like he was being flown out to Dubai or anything......

Why the government or Presdient Saheb ony? Is it not duty of all Pakistanis to help this well known icon singer who ruled in ghazals and songs for decades?

please someone explain why any government should folk the bill for any ONE individuals health costs. I'm not concerened about him being a renouned gazal singer or whatever...like that there are many human beings in pakistan who need basic health treatment yet the government still fails to help (rolling eyes)

You are right but he gave his services to Pakistan and the country became famous for producing such a high class singer and ghazal go which none can compete him since creation of Pakistan. He deserves all support not only from the governmen but all people of Pakistan for his services to the country.

All very well said but so do those who work normal jobs help build and run the country and what do they get back in return??? NOTHING

TodayKARACHI, Jan 23: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad inaugurated a park named after ailing Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan in Block N of North Nazimabad on Monday. Mr Hassan was also present on the occasion.

Paying tribute to the veteran singer, Dr Ibad said that Mehdi Hassan`s fame was not confined to Pakistan only as he was known and admired by the people fond of Ghazal in every part of the world.

The singer not only introduced and proved himself through his poetic renditions, but also made a name for the country in the world, he said.

He said that whatever steps would be taken to compliment and honour Mr Hassan would always remain unmatched by his services to Urdu Ghazal and the country.

The governor recalled that following the demise of TV, film and stage actor Moin Akhtar, a park had been named after him and now another park was being dedicated to this famous singer.

He also asked the administrator of Karachi to name a park after the name of another stage, film and TV actor Umer Sharif.

Responding to media questions, the governor said that there was no misunderstanding between the PPP and the MQM on the issue of establishment of new provinces.

The two parties, who were in talks, would also succeed in framing the new local government/municipal system documents for the province very soon

Why Govt have to pay the bills? I really have problem with this. First of all, yes he is king of ghzals and made Pakistan famous, but at the same time he made a lot of money, so he should pay for his own hospital bills, second, he fathered a wall to wall kids, not sure if they 9 of them or more and most of them in USA, why they can not pay the bills? Third, the Singer's community who make lots of money they should help him, why Pak Govt? Remember RFK, who got arrested at Delhi airport for enormous amount of money taking to India, these folks are not poor, Pakistan is.

If he doesn't have the means to cover his own medical expenses than he is no different than scores of other artists that end up broke after making millions. It really is sad but whether or not his treatment should become a burden on an already suffering/broke nation is another story altogether.

I cannot deny his contribution to his art.....but I would feed the hungry and treat the needy first before someone who has the means to take care of himself.
