Are these temporary towns? Looks like a political stunt…
The federal government is seriously considering establishing 10 or more “Benazirabad” cities in flood-hit areas for the affected people.
This was decided in a meeting of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders held in the federal capital under the chairmanship of party’s Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari. The meeting reviewed in detail the devastation caused by floods. It seriously took up the proposal floated by President Zardari calling for establishment of new cities for the flood-hit people in different parts of the country.
Under consideration was establishment of at least 10 new cities in the four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan. The cities would be named “Benazirabad” after former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. “These cities would be set up in all parts of the country and every ‘Benazirabad’ will consist of 5,000 to 10,000 houses,” said a party leader present at the meeting. “These cities will provide every civic facility to its residents and the people affected by the natural catastrophe will be allotted homes either free of cost or on nominal prices,” he added. Cost of subsidised houses will be recovered in installments.
