Re: Govt backs down - will write letter to Swiss Authorities
If this is true then this might be a trick to temporarily cool down standoff with one entity (i.e Judiciary) and take Army heads on. I think PPP believe that getting Shahadat agasint Army will give them more advantage than getting Shahadat against Judiciary.

waving white flag to judiciary ![]()
Re: Govt backs down - will write letter to Swiss Authorities
They want courts to be on their side if army moves against them. Remember Zardari saying in the interview that his government won’t write letter to Swiss authorities “come what may” ??? ![]()
Re: Govt backs down - will write letter to Swiss Authorities
^ could be true, as the army would want a soft coup through the judiciary, but if that is avoided for some time. In the mean while the government can replace the ISI and Army chief with people of their choice hence making memo gate a reality.
Re: Govt backs down - will write letter to Swiss Authorities
^ Unlike a civilian setup, it's not easy for a puppet to function in army. A new duo of army chief and ISI boss will have better mandate and standing to deal with them. Memo is anyway in courts....

its not easy to install new CAOS and DG-ISI. Remember what happened with Gen Ziauddin Butt?

Bhutto tried that, Nawaz Sharif tried that ![]()

You know it never stop surprise me how powerful Judiciary. ![]()
And I have no shame to admit that only Judiciary and very few know its power, I am not one of them.
Zardai was right
when he said its evolution.
Re: Govt backs down - will write letter to Swiss Authorities
Kayani and Pasha are already on extension...something they should haven't accepted at the first place anyway. They will only improve their standing and mar government's if they step down.
Re: Govt backs down - will write letter to Swiss Authorities
yes one reason for the reaction was that Zia did not command respect in the army (maybe if some one else had been appointed the situation might have been different) and he was not from armed corps. Secondly that was the second time NS was trying to dislodge an army chief. The army couldnt resist that, but during the past 10 years due to WOT and Balochistan the army is not only tied down but it has lost most of its respect as well. Thats why it would be very difficult for them to take over even if they want to, any such move will make PPP a martyr and over all disastrous for the country.

Re: Govt backs down - will write letter to Swiss Authorities
U-turn: Govt considering writing Swiss letter [ **In a U-turn, government is considering writing letter to Swiss authorities, sources said. **
Sources said the letter would probably be written by Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, PPP leader and renowned expert of constitutionalism.
The Supreme Court has warned the government of initiating contempt proceedings against the PM and the President in case the government persisted with defiance and not implemented the NRO verdict.
The SC had said that it would form a full bench by Jan 16 to decide the matter.
The Swiss letter pertains to the accounts of the Bhutto family. President Zardari had said in an interview lately that his party has unanimously decided that no one would be allowed to have the trial of the grave of Benazir Bhutto, the late prime minister and chairperson of the PPP.
Analysts may view the government s possible U-turn as a policy to temporarily end standoff with one organ of state – the judiciary – since it is also at odds with the Army on the other side.
