It will if the provinces are based on ethnicities or cultures. Can't we ever think outside the box.

Imagine, having 15 Chief Ministers and provincial cabinets looting the public with both hands (and feet). Oh my! the vision is just too disturbing. 15 provincial assemblies, 15 secretariats, 15 high courts.... Ouch ouch ouch!!!
Na bhai.. don't call them provinces. Call them any thing else, and I am all for it - i.e getting rid of this rampant provincialism ("Sindh ki beti Punjab mein maari gayee" - as if she is killed by Punjabi nationalists), and B-PAP (Blame Punjab for All Problems) syndrome.

This guy got a point, smaller provinces, small problems, small ethnic minorites , that can be a solution for time being but in future we will have problems.
We need a very powerful c4i system to have grip on every province.

We have nothing to lose....If we have done this 50 years ago we would have been in a much better shape than now. It is good idea if it's impletmented correctly, we can not afford another civial war, another tragedy like east Pakistan.
I have heard that in 80s Zia-ul-Haq wanted to create 20 districts/provinces but the idea was dropped because of opposition from the Pakistani army.
I hope govenment will go for it.......each state/province will have economic development system, local government will promote the industry and service sectors as a means to socioeconomic achievement. Eash state will develop it's own economic structure, economic planning of the future development in various field: Engeeneering, agriculture, food processing industry, sea food. Local government will be resposible to try to find the fastest way to lift up the economy through investment from both domestic and foreign investors.
We have example like USA with 50 state and no major problems. Each state has it's own system and development projects, education system, intersate highway system.

Whats the point? If they consider Punjab to be the source of all the problmes in the country, then breaking it up into smaller provinces wont resolve the problem... All you will have is smaller punjabs working together to do the same thing the one large Punjab had been doing.
On the other hand, it may allow for better governance, as smaller provinces may mean the govt is closer to the people, and thus delivery of services is much easier.

The whole point of having smaller provinces so it will be easier to develop the country. Less then 10% of people live in big cities, we need to develop the whole country not just one or 2 cities. If there is problem in Karachi becaise of riots or public strike the whole country suffer why? Because Karachi is the only port city. We should have developed Sonmiani, Ormara, Pasni and gawader long time ago.
Thailand is smaller than Pakistan and it has 75 provinces and it is one of the fastest-growing economy in Asia.
Yes we shud develop more ports.
But whats the purpose of having provinces and whole lot of them. Whats needed is that local bodies and mayors are made more sovereign and more efficient to deliver services at local level. We need to bring harmony not divisions.

It is a shame that instead of uniting people the government is creating differences among communities with this 15 province plan. This is what all army dictators have done....Divide and rule.

its not the solution, the core issue it give the local population access to services near to their house. it doesnt mean give them a new assembly and new lot of ministers. will not good at all.
FATA, PATA, northern areas should either be created as new province or merged with NWFP.
I dont think there is need of making 64 Divisions into provinces solve any problem.
in UK it has 4 states/countries all functioning very well the services are more local and have access and rights to work anywhere in the county without any problem.
you will find a proud scotish working in England and vice versa.
similarly a proud Bloch should be able to work and live in any part of the country and vice versa.
lets not devide already very devided nation.

If that would happen, we would thank God finally for a sane decision.
Atleast there should be Pakhtoonkhwa, Hindko, Potohar, North Punjab(Sialkot, Lahore etc), South Punjab( Faisalabad,Sahiwal etc), Saraiki Prov., Sindh Rural, Sindh Urban, Baluchistan, Brahvi Prov. and Makran.

i allready proposed this idea many times.
its something that needs to happen, we should just finished the provence system and use districts, this way neglected parts of provences will also be given there rights and develop.
the district system should be made, like the states system in the usa.
right now our provences are just massive and are the root cause of many problems,

I'll put it this way, if the people are willing to live with each other free from perceptions of ethnicity then it doesn't matter whether we 4 provinces or 14, it will work. However smaller divisions are easier to manage and gives a better measure of progress and health of regions. If a provincial government is in trouble it will not affect a vast region if we had more provinces. Having more allows better risk management of the country.

here is map of all districts, i think we should keep this system but give more power to them and take power away from provencial districts and cm’s.

Then why has it happened in your India? I think the breakup of provinces along with breakdown and banning of feudalism has helped india in the long run.

You can split a country to any number of provinces or renaming of them...but do let it decide by the local people by holding referenda...political parties or parliaments are not a true reflection to impose their decisions on this issue... :)
