What a shame. The price of crude oil has fallen to the tune of 25-30 percent in the international market. The government has reduced the prices (not proportional to the international market) and now are increasing the GST (to 22 % from 17 %) to cover the revenue loss. What a considerate government.

FBR always wants to collect indirect taxes which is easy way and petroleum products are the biggest contribution of Indirect taxes which come in government treasury without any effort like tax audits, etc. Government prepare budgetary targets on higher sides at the instructions of IMF / World Bank and reduction in oil prices was leading away government from budgeted tax collection targets. so the game.
