Got to love the MMA's respect for the law: Caught red-handed breaking it!

With elected leaders like this… well, I’m actually at a loss for words.

I’ll admit that my family broke the law and served food at the last wedding we had too, but we’re not the government!

Certainly, you would expect that the Provincial Law Minister Malik Zafar Azam , of the Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) party, would actually FOLLOW THE DAMNED LAW!!!

How can we expect a Law Minister to 100% enforce the law if he breaks the law himself?

On a lighter note… now we know that at MMA family weddings they play music too. See… the MMA are just like us

Despite the Supreme Court ban on wedding meals, a large number of NWFP ministers, MPAs and government officials attended on Sunday a lavish valima dinner hosted by provincial Law Minister Malik Zafar Azam to mark the marriage of his nephew.

The party was held on the lawns of the Kohat Garrison Club and attended by around 1500 people, who partook of a variety of dishes served in violation of the SC ban on extravagant expenses on weddings.

The organizers had to face embarrassment when they were asked to turn off music on the arrival of Senior Minister Sirajul Haq. (:D) The guests enjoyed chicken roast, white meat, sweets and other delicacies.

Prominent among those who attended the ceremony were Deputy Speaker of NWFP Assembly Ikram Ullah Shahid, Minister for Zakat and Ushr Hafiz Hashmat, Minister for Population Welfare Kashif Azam, Minister for Fisheries Akhtar Nawaz, Minister for Sports Raja Faisal Zaman, MPA Qalb e Hassan, district and tehsil nazims of Kohat and Karak, a large number of lawyers and high officials.

They also presented gifts to the groom, Nayyar Azam Khattak.

PIA says MNA lied in the House

By Rauf Klasra

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has informed the National Assembly that Jamaat-e-Islami MNA Hanif Abbasi lied on the floor of the House that he was mistreated and arrested at Jeddah airport and was released by Saudi police for being a descendant of the Banu Abbas, a respected clan in the Arab world.
Earlier, Abbasi had claimed in a privilege motion that after misbehaving with him, PIA staff had tried their utmost to send him to jail but thanks to his being descendant of Banu Abbas that Saudi police accorded respect and immediately released him.

PIA in its official report said that the legislator did not divulge the facts to the National Assembly. It said actually Hanif Abbasi felt his privilege was breached only because an officer at the PIA counter hesitated to give a pen to Abbasi because he was processing passengers boarding a Pakistan-bound flight.

The PIA has informed the National Assembly Committee on Rules and Privileges which is meeting here today that Abbasi had simply told lies on the floor of the House about the event which had taken place at Jeddah airport in April 2005.

When contacted by The News and told that PIA had insisted that no incident of his arrest had occurred at Jeddah airport as he claimed in his privilege motion, Abbasi refused to comment. “I would not say anything about the PIA claim,” he said.

The PIA said that two officials were deputed in the concourse hall at Jeddah to guide the passengers for smooth processing and when Abbasi had reported at the business class check-in counter, a few economy class passengers were being processed through the counter to which he objected.

He was briefed by the check-in staff that due to allocation of only four counters to the PIA to process passengers at Jeddah, a few economy class passengers were being processed through business class counter for timely departure of the flight.

The PIA said on this Abbasi arrogantly introduced himself as an MNA following which immediate assistance was provided to him leaving aside the economy class passengers. The PIA said it was also a lie on the part of Abbasi that the PIA staff threw his passport.

About the arrest of Abbasi at Jeddah airport, PIA said no such incident happened at all. It said actually at the time of boarding a security immigration officer rechecked the travel documents as per the standard operating procedure and asked Abbasi to show his documents but he started resisting and refused to show the papers.

It said Abbasi was assisted despite his resistance to showing travel documents and was cleared within a few minutes. It said that a Saudi immigration official on the desk had simply passed a few friendly comments regarding his being a descendant of Banu Abbas.

The PIA said it was helpless before the Saudi authorities that do not spare anyone while completing the set procedures because of rising security concerns and this kind of inconvenience is beyond its (PIA) control.

nothing surprising about maddys post..especially if one knows a bit about Zafar Azam :D Hanif Abbassi is a classic example of the VIP culture tho..

being in a position of power generally means ignoring the law in Pakistan..has anyone heard about Wasi Zafar the federal law minister? his son beat someone up at Islamabad airport..the next day he slapped a waiter in front of half of Pakistans press corp followed by him slapping a earthquake victim after the man shouted at him..
