Since last 2 years away from family, friends, living alone.... hardly any interaction with desi people in person on that level... means no gossip for me during these 2 years!

I'd say it's easy to go from updating a friend on someone's recent activities to gossip thus most of us end up doing it.

It could simply be human nature. Or the nasty girl in us that gets jealous and starts talking about everyone else.

I abhor it. I was around women that gossiped constantly at work. i wished I could escape it. By the way, it's not just women that gossipy men are extraordinary at spreading rumors or untruths and it can be just as destructive. I wish people of both genders that love gossip could find something better or more constructive to do with their time. Are their lives that boring that they have to talk about other people's private lives.

Haven't read the definition of gossip. It probably comprises one or all of following

1) Speaking ill of someone with intent to be destructive
2) Making stuff up about someone - ie lying to destroy them
3) Talking about someone's looks or their children's looks in derogatory way
4) Cluck clucking about someone's marital status

But it is entirely fair and even necessary to counter others' lies and exaggeration. By spreading the truth. In this case you will speak ill of the other. But it is not gossip. It is setting the record straight. Too often this is lumped into gossip column.

Key is - never put conditions - here is the truth. But you can't tell that person I told you. That is bogus. If truth is on ur side u shouldn't care who knows what u have stated. Transparency is key.

It basically helps validate our feelings about someone or something, having someone who agrees with what we are saying makes us feel better, sometimes that includes b itching about people. Sad but very true.

I don't like it to be honest and I don't like associating with people that do talk trash about others behind their backs.
Because if they can do it about them, chances are you might be their next topic.

I can honestly tell you that I don't gossip. You can ask anyone! I just don't find talking about other people interesting enough. I am not trying to be holier than thou either.

I actually heard this in action. This whole group of intelligent women gossiping about anybody and everybody and as soon as one of them is out of the office, the rest of them start bad mouthing and talking crap about her. I was just so disgusted by all of them and blocked them out and just concentrated on my work. I bet when i'm not around they're talking about me. I'm glad i'm not around that horrible environment.

A man I know who doesn't have much to do other than wait for customers at his job gossiped his way into ruining two-three people's lives because he got the whole story wrong but somehow he had to spread rumors.

Idle mouths\hands are the devil's workshop soooo applies to all this.

I was simply referring to her “small minds discuss people” quote. You kind of said the same thing in your post, hence my clever reply. It was a compliment wrapped in some kind of twisted humor, :(.

I have a handful of people I confide in and yes I gossip to them about things I find interesting but it is mostly to vent and share my life.
