MUMBAI: This is the first time in the history of Mumbai police that all the senior IPS officers came forward and made a protest before the chief minister and home minister following the attack on the man in uniform by six MLAs.
Sources said that the senior IPS officers not only expressed their displeasure over the incident but indirectly threatened the chief minister and home ministers to come clean on it and decide the course of action or else there will be a strong revolt in the force and their moral too would be down. Top among the IPS who met the chief minister were director general of police Sanjeev Dayal, additional director general of police KL Prasad, joint commissioner of police Sadanand Date, Himanshu Roy, Sanjay Phansalkar and Satish Mathur.
“We have informed the entire incident in detail and have expressed our displeasure before the chief minister and home minister” said Satyapal Singh police commissioner.
Singh on Tuesday handed over the probe into the incident of alleged assault on assistant inspector of traffic Sachin Suryavanshi by six MLAs to Mumbai crime branch. Sources said that joint commissioner of police Himanshu Roy has been asked to personally look into the matter.
Singh said that the Marine Drive police under whose jurisdiction the incident took place have registered an FIR against six MLAs. Suryavanshi who has been admitted to a private hospital has identified two MLAs - K****esh Thakur and Ram Kadam. “We will not spare anyone and the law will take its own course.” added Singh.
Recalling the incident Singh said that on Monday, while Suryvanshi and his staff were carrying a drive against the speeding and rash driving at the Worli end of Bandra Worli Sealink road, charged MLA Kesh’s vehicle (MH48-A-1). Kesh had allegedly abused Suryvanshi which latter brought K****esh to Worli traffic police and the matter was sorted out.
However on Tuesday the issue was raised in the assembly after which MLS Vasant Dhavkare asked the police to get Suryvanshi and his senior inspector to assembly. It was here that seeing Suryvanshi, MLA K****esh pointed out to other MLAs and all started assaulting him.
The entire incident has been recorded in the CCTV camera and we will look into all aspects while covering the probe." said Singh. Several policemen including senior IPS officers have expressed their displeasure over the incident and have strongly protested the way the MLAs abused and beat up. This is yet another incident of policemen abused and beaten up by the member of public after the August 11 incident. “The situation is turning worst like Bihar and UP and if nothing is done to stop this, the situation will be worst.” said IPS officer.
